YOUR CHOICE OF TWO CHECKING OPTIONS

Switching from a checking account you already have with another financial institution to a BVFCU Checking Account is easier with our "1, 2, 3 Switch Forms".  These forms help you simplify transferring automatic payments and direct deposits to your new credit union account.

Both checking accounts still offer these great features:

  • No per check fee - Write as many checks as you like. There is never a "per check" charge for the checks you write.
  • Internet check reordering - If you have ordered checks in the past through your credit union, you may now reorder checks securely over the internet. If you are ordering new checks or want to make changes to your existing check order, you must still call the Credit Union.
  • Regular monthly statements - Keeping your account up-to-date is simple with the easy-to-read statement you receive each month.

  • Special "Senior and College Student" discounts (FREE Checking ONLY) - Senior discount is offered to members age 60 and over; College Student discount is available to members with valid college student ID. Refer to our Service Fee Schedule.

VISA CHECK CARD

Your BVFCU Visa Check Card transactions will be processed in real-time. This means that every time you use your card at an ATM or to make a purchase, the transaction will be authorized based on the available balance in your account, at that moment.  Also, most transactions will be reflected in your checking account immediately.

Here are some of the benefits of real-time processing:

  • Immediate access to available funds.  No more waiting until the next daily balance update to use the money from a deposit.
  • Quicker access to Direct Deposits.  Your direct deposit/payroll deduction will be available as soon as it is applied to your account.
  • Easier balancing.  You can track MOST transactions in your checking account as soon as they are complete.  Transactions to the account may be delayed if the merchant is not connected to the Visa system at the time of purchase.

------------------------------------------------------------------

You now have the option of how your purchase will be processed when using your BVFCU Visa Check Card at merchants’ “Point of Sale” (POS) terminals. All transactions, whether you select DEBIT or CREDIT, will be deducted from your checking account. If you choose “CREDIT”, purchases are processed by Visa.  Generally, you are required to sign a receipt or electronic pad, except for purchases at gas pumps.  You should use CREDIT for most transactions since it is more widely accepted by merchants, and the purchases may be protected by Visa rules and regulations in cases of charge disputes.Transactions processed as “DEBIT” are processed by Interlink (a nationwide Debit-POS network).  You will be required to enter your PIN.  You should choose DEBIT if you are receiving “Cash Back” from the merchant, or if the merchant does not accept Credit transactions.Either option, DEBIT or CREDIT, is available to meet your transaction needs.

------------------------------------------------------------------

You can access your checking account without writing checks because the BVFCU Visa Check Card offers a whole world of convenience.

  • Faster and easier than writing a check - Simply present the BVFCU Check Card to a merchant, sign the receipt, and go. Or "swipe" it through a Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal where available. It saves time when you're in a hurry, because you don't have to write a check or show I.D., and you don't need to wait for a check approval.
  • Accepted where checks aren't - It's not always easy to pay by check when you're away from home. Your BVFCU Visa Check Card helps you avoid this problem. And it's safer than carrying large amounts of cash. You can even use it when ordering merchandise or services by phone, mail or internet.

CHECK CARD FRAUD MONITORING SYSTEM

BVFCU  has implemented a fraud monitoring system to screen card activity 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Frequently Asked Questions about Fraud Monitoring:

How will this affect my existing card?
There will be no change to your current service unless you experience fraudulent or suspicious activity with your card(s).

What happens when suspicious or unusual activity occurs?
The Card Service Center will place a temporary block on your card and attempt to contact you directly at the phone number we have on file for you to verify the transaction(s) in question. Your card may be permanently blocked if we cannot establish contact with you after a reasonable amount of time has elapsed.

What happens if the charge is legitimate but the Card Service Center is unable to get in touch with me?
BVFCU reserves the right to unblock your card if you are able to contact us, or if based on prior activity or knowledge, we know the charge to be legitimate. If the service cannot reach you by phone, a temporary block will be placed until the transaction can be validated or confirmed as fraud.

What happens if I travel somewhere new or need to make a large purchase that does not fit within the pattern of my normal activity?
Your card may be blocked; however, BVFCU may choose to unblock your card at anytime. It is recommended that you contact BVFCU ahead of time to inform us of your plans. We also suggest you write down the phone numbers below and take them with you in the event that your card is blocked and you need to reach the Card Service Center immediately.

What will the Card Service Center ask if they contact me?
You should expect a Fraud Analyst to ask you to validate if a specific transaction(s) is valid or not. They may ask you to verify the last 4 digits of your Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) or Social Security Number (SSN) to ensure they are speaking with the true cardholder. They will not ask for your card number, password, or other personal identification information. In some cases, you may receive an automated phone call and will be asked to verify your transactions using your telephone keypad to respond. If you are unavailable to take the initial call, a message will be left on your voicemail.

How do I contact the Card Service Center to remove a block on a legitimate transaction?
A Fraud Analyst may be reached at 1-800-890-5097 (within the United States), or 1-727-227-2447 (if you are calling from outside the United States). Please note, they will be unable to provide any other BVFCU services to you.
